The downside of course is the risk of what happened with you: the app is perceived as an ugly clone, instead of a unique proposition. My rationale was that it would be good to have some important UI element that refers to the big competitor, so people would know at a glance what the app is supposed to do. Or whether the problem lies with the scope and design of the app itself.Ĭould be that it wasn't such a great idea on my part to make the timeline look so similar to Flash. I'm asking to figure out whether this is something that could be fixed by a better landing page, a nice icon, etc. Or is it also the product description itself that you find confusing? So, if I understand you correctly, you find the design of the site "above the fold" so unappealing that you didn't want to read any further.? at this moment you're trying to hook me up with a chick that sports a moustache and a giant wart on her nose. (* - what is your product, why should I use, what does it do for me, what makes your product better than the tools I'm already using, etc., etc.) if it does what I suspect it might do, it could be quite interesting and useful

here's one of the better examples of a dev who knows how to present/sell his/their wares: Īll that being said, I'll definitely give the beta a whirl tomorrow. I know it's shallow and superficial but you really need to a) explain what it is you want to sell/give me (*), and b) make it look attractive. First impressions are vital and at this moment you're trying to hook me up with a chick that sports a moustache and a giant wart on her nose. In short, if you hadn't posted here I would never have proceeded past the first impression and gone through the trouble of downloading the beta.

Honestly, I'm a bit lost as to what I should be doing next. If I can figure out a way to make some money from plugins or other add-on content without charging for the app, I'd probably be inclined to do that.)

Certainly if there is a price, it won't be in the hundreds of dollars like my other product. (I don't know how the final release will shape up, so I can't say whether it will cost money.

Please have a look and play with the free beta! I'm really happy to finally have it in a somewhat presentable state, and would like to share it with you:
MAC APP FOR HTML CREATION SOFTWARE
Over the past year, I've been working on an app which would bring together - in my fever dreams, at least - my video effects software world with the exciting potential of the web's new HTML5 standard.

I've had an interesting ride with Apple over the years, not always agreeing with their policies, but I'll give up the MacBook Pro when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Anyway, developing Mac apps for video professionals is what I actually do in life. In recent memory, I've only been active on Ars in the dreaded Battlefront, more specifically a certain 200+ page thread about smartphone operating systems (which is about 100x more civilized and interesting than most of what goes on in the BF). I used to post here fairly often a couple of years ago. It's been a while since I posted to the Mac Ach, so I feel like I should somehow (re)introduce myself.
